Had a young Great Spot feeding on the peanuts for a couple of weeks but I've not seen him for a while. This is the first one we've had in this garden. I've also just seen a Heron fly over which is another new garden tick :)

Sparrowhawk - 10/10/07

We had a Sparrowhawk in the garden today... around 5:30. We didn't see the "dive bomb" but saw it sitting on a hedge ripping up the poor soul it had just caught. It was a little downy and brown so it must have been quite young.

I've Moved

This blog has been very very quiet, as indeed has my birding. We've moved from Yorkshire to North Wales and so I've had very little spare time. But now we've settled I'm back in action with an amazing garden and local patch to explore as well as Dee Estuary, Conwy and Talacre just down the road.

I've had a few new sightings, mainly in Spain (now added to my European list), but in general I've not had much time... until now!!!!!! :)

My new local patch, Halkyn Mountain, is fantasic. I've already got a decent list going just by walking the dog and seen some fantastic things. Today, we walked to one of the ponds and saw a wagtail I couldn't id (must have been a juvenile), and lots of lots of little fish. There were some big fish too topping the water and even a few goldfish in there!!! Yesterday, I saw a flock of around 200 starlings scattered over the grass presumably feeding and even one on a sheeps back! (there are sheep everywhere here!!!!) Buzzards are very common and my garden is already bursting with life.

So I'm going to try and keep this up to date again, take a few photos and even videos, and not just birds, but all the wildlife I come across in the garden, on the mountain and beyond.
